Working in a global environment is challenging. Depending on where you are located, it can be difficult to manage. The hours can be strange and it is hard to find balance between work and your family. Last week was a tough week for husband and me. Wednesday, my hubby needed to be in the office for a 3am meeting. You see, he was supposed to be physically present in London. However, that would be taking a huge risk since I was 29 weeks with twins. While this isn’t the norm, I’m guessing it will happen quite a bit until he is able to travel again. He quietly got up at 2am, but of course I could hear him and was awakened. To say Wednesday was an exhausting day is an understatement!

Normally during the week he will have a few early calls and a few late calls. We have both worked global roles in the past, but the craziness isn’t so bad when you don’t have children. Now it’s overwhelming. There are times when he has a call at 5am, 6am, and 7am. Then will have a call at 10pm all in the same day. Of course, there is still work to be done between the hours of 8 and 5! I must say though, I prefer this that his travel schedule. At least he’s home on the weekends and for dinner every night.

Fortunately, I run my own business so I have the ultimate flexible job. While somedays I wish I worked a normal 8 to 5, it works for us. Trying to connect with the rest of the world from Houston is just not easy, but somebody’s got to do it. What are some of your scheduling challenges?
